Welcome to Math Class!

Dear Students and Guardians,

Mathematics is a journey that is not necessarily difficult.  Mathematics is just different, and tasks that are different become familiar through practice and hard work.  Learning mathematics, like learning a foreign language, a musical instrument, or an athletic skill, requires long-term practice to develop and maintain mastery of these skills.

Homework will be assigned most every night.  It is my personal belief that mastery comes only from practice, and homework is one form of “practicing” mathematics.  Also, quizzes and assessments will be given on a regular basis.

The study of mathematics can be exciting and rewarding or dull and frustrating.  Your young adult’s experience in mathematics will be a direct result of the attitude and effort with which they approach the subject.  A positive attitude and commitment to the subject greatly improves your young adult’s chance for success in this course.  Statistics from the U.S. Department of Education show that success in secondary school algebra is the single greatest predictor of success in college—not just for engineering and science majors, but for majors in all fields.  With this, it is clear that your young adult’s success in this class is of great importance.

I look forward to working with each of you this semester.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  To find my contact information, look under the Contact Mrs. Fitzgerald tab at the top of this webpage.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fitzgerald
